528,600. Shuttleless looms. CLUTSOM, C. May 10, 1939, No. 13956. [Class 142 (ii)] A shuttleless loom, which may be of the general form described in Specification 478,529, comprises a weft laying member 1, Fig. 1, a bearded knitting needle 2 for forming a selvedge and a presser member additional to and independent of the weft laying member for closing the beard of the needle at appropriate times. The needle 2 is carried by a reciprocating bar 7 adapted to be lifted by a cam 13, Fig. 2, during its forward movement, and the presser 18 is preferably pivoted at 19 to a lug on the bar 7, being normally held in its upper position by the open spring beard 2a of the needle, and depressed during the rearward movement when a protuberance 18b engages a fixed stud 21. In a modification, the presser 28, Fig. 10, has a cam slot 28a engaging a fixed pin 29, or a pin on the presser engages a fixed cam. An additional thread may be supplied to the needle in a manner similar to that described in Specification 506,810, selvedges may be formed on each edge of the fabric, and two weft threads may be employed, in which case a separate finger may be employed as described in Specification 478,529 to push or pull the appropriate thread to cause it to engage with the needle.
