Abstract
105,316. Stibbe, G. Dec 11, 1916. Needles.-A latch needle, particularly for fine-gauge machines, comprises a stem 1 carrying a guard member 3 pivoted at 4 and working on the inside of the hook 2. The member 3 is provided with a loop &c. 8 adapted to embrace the hook portion 2 and to engage the point 9, and is also furnished with a tail 14 adapted to engage a cam for closing the hook, the opening movement being effected by the pressure of the yarn or a spring. In use, the movement of the needle is such that the loops 7 does not pass below the pivot 4. Fig. 7 shows a modification in which the upper portion of the member 3 is bent backwards, in order that the width of the hook may be reduced. Fig. 8 shows a further modification in which the hook 2 is the movable element. The movable member 3, Fig. 4, is preferably mounted upon the shank 1 by forming it with cheeks 5 and recessing the needle at 6, Fig. 5, to receive these cheeks.
