Abstract

23,886. Hutchinson, R. Oct. 15. Circular machines. - In order to produce fashioned circular elastic goods, such as kneecaps, corsets, body-belts, &c., the stitch cam 1 is caused to move up and down during each course to vary the length of loop drawn. This causes one side of the article to be longer than the other, and effects the required curving or pouching. The method described in Specification 29,540/09 for varying the diameter of the article is combined with this. The stitch-cam 1 carries a piece 3 projecting through a vertical - slot 4, and is operated against a spring 5 by a lever 7, the free end of which carries a roller 8, which runs on a cam 12 when the required shaping is to be effected. For making ordinary work, the roller is movable on its stud to a position in which it is unaffected by the cam. In a modified form, Fig. 3, the roller 15 runs on a collar 16 provided with pins 18 and mounted on a screwed stud 14. The cam 17 is provided with oblique inclined surfaces, and the rise and fall of the stitch cam is varied by means of a controlled striker 19, which engages the pins 18. A modified form of cam is made in two parts sliding over one another to vary the number of needles acted thereupon.
