Abstract
27,246. Woodward. C. R., and Foulds, H. M. Dec. 10. Circular knitting-machines.-The main thread of a tube of fabric for glove hands is replaced at intervals by a draw-thread on the subsequent removal of which the thumb-holes are left. Lever thread-carriers l, m are pivoted at n to a bracket on the rotary cam-cylinder, and springs are provided which normally hold the main thread carrier l in action and the carrier m out of action. The position of the carriers is controlled by curved horizontal barsp, q mounted on the upper extremity of a bell-crank r. When a stud t<1> of the patternwheel t arrives under the bell-crank r, the bars p, q are brought into the path of the carriers l, m, the tails of which strike the bevelled ends of the bars p, q and are deflected into a space x. The relative position of the bars p, q is such that the carrier m is brought into action before the carrier l is taken out of action, and vice versa.
