Abstract

848,730. Shuttleless looms. DEWAS, R. Feb. 21, 1958 [March 2, 1957], No. 5655/58. Class 142(2). In a loom inserting cut picks of weft, a loop of selvedge thread 10 is inserted into the shed by a needle 4 oscillating on a vertical or nearly vertical shaft 5; a plunger 13 penetrates the warp to hold the loop whilst the needle 4 is being withdrawn. The needle is channelled at 12 to guide the thread 10; the part that enters the shed may have the vertical web and top flange of the channel cut away, or the needle may taper towards the tip, in which case the eye for the thread 10 is formed by a horizontal hole. The needle 4 and plunger 13 are operated by separate cams or by one cam with angularly spaced followers.
