Abstract
506,583. Cylinders. AUTO UNION AKT.-GES. Oct. 26, 1937, No. 29282. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1936. [Class 7 (ii)] In a two-stroke engine cylinder having piston-controlled exhaust and inlet ports 2, 4, the top edge of each of the inlet.ports is rounded at 13 so as to merge with' the cylinder wall, and the inclination and size of each port is such that the scavenging charge issues as a free jet clinging to the wall. The upper profile of the port may form part of a standard aerofoil section 14 and be embodied in an insert member 16. The piston .face is preferably hollow, the deepest part of the hollow being adjacent the inlet ports. The inlet ports may be rounded on all sides, and may comprise a pair arranged adjacent, or opposite, one another. The admission of the scavenging charge is controlled by a port in the piston at the lower end of the transfer passage 7. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also less-steeply inclined inlet ports. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
