Abstract
506,263. Cleaning tubes. LIVSEY, H. Nov. 22, 1937, No. 32086. [Class 99 (ii)] The tubes of a heat-exchanger, such as an economizer 1, are cleaned by shot or other abrasive material which is dropped or projected under pressure into the heat-exchanger and falls by gravity through the tubes 2, the tubes being positioned and shaped so that the shot or abrasive material ricochets from side-to-side of the tubes in passing through the spaces around them. In the economizer shown, buckets 20 on an endless band deliver shot from a pit 16 into shoots 7. The shot passes from the shoots through a rotating valve 5 on to a rotating distributer plate 8 and is showered evenly over the tubes 2. The shot is afterwards directed by plates 12, 13 into a box 14. and then discharged by a screw 17 back into the pit. A pipe 19a supplies steam or air under pressure for removing soot from the shot before it drops into the pit. The valve 5 and the distributer, plate 8 may be rotated at different speeds to ensure an even distribution of the shot., Specification 492,108, [Group XIII], is referred to.
