Abstract
506,149. Fluid - actuated valves. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd., and DURANT, C. E. Nov. 4, 1938, No. 31984. [Class 135] An automatic cutoff device for location in a fluid-supply conduit, e.g. between a cutting or welding torch and a gas meter, comprises valve mechanism having valvecontrolled inlet and outlet ports 2, 3, in communication with fluid supply and delivery conduits, and pressure-responsive means operable to cause the inlet port or the outlet port to be closed on the occurrence of a positive or a negative pressure impulse respectively in said delivery conduit. In the construction shown, the ports 2, 3 are provided with seats 5, 6 for a common valve member 4 located at one end of a stem 7, the other end of which is connected to a diaphragm 8, the opposite sides 9, 10 of the latter being subjected respectively to the pressures in the delivery conduit and of the atmosphere, through ports 13. The valve member is normally held in an intermediate position with both ports 2, 3 open by means of bowed springs 14 associated with the diaphragm 8, but is caused to move in a direction to close one or other of the ports on the occurrence of a pressure impulse.
