506,116. Reflectors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 26, 1938, No. 22206. Convention date, July 27, 1937. Drawings to Specification. [Class 75 (ii)] [Also in Group XX] A reflector, adapted to withstand a high temperature such as that prevailing in searchlights or floodlights, comprises a glass base backed with a reflecting layer of chemically deposited silver, a reinforcing layer of the same metal electrolytically deposited, and a protecting coating of sodium silicate containing powdered graphite to absorb the oxygen occluded in the backing. The protecting coating is applied in two layers, the first comprising a sodium silicate solution containing 13 to 14 per cent of Na2O, 31 to 32 per cent of SiO2, and the remainder water, while the second layer consists of sodium silicate containing the powdered graphite. A coating of sodium silicate containing comminuted metal, e.g. copper, may be applied as a finishing coat.
