Abstract

505,286. Door &c. operating-appliances. AUSTIN, W. Jan. 18, 1938, No. 1658. [Class 65(i)] In a vehicle-actuated apparatus for operating gates &c. having an actuating member adapted to be pulled or pushed by the vehicle in the direction of travel and connected to the gate-operating mechanism, the actuating member consists of a longitudinally slidable horizontal bar 21 carrying a vertical arm 22 for engagement by the vehicle, and sliding in two guide tubes 31, 33 which limit the movement of the bar by engaging the arm 22. The distance of the arm 22 from the ends of the bar is greater than the total travel of the arm, so that neither end of the bar can emerge from its tube. The bar is guided in the tubes by a channel member 28, 29, and is connected at its ends to ropes 25, 26 one for opening, the other for closing the gates. The rope 26 passes round an adjustable fixed pulley 27 and through a tube 30 arranged under the bar 21. Two sets of the above apparatus may be combined, one being outside, the other inside the gates. When used for operating sliding doors, roller type flexible shutters, and lazy-tongs gates, the ropes are passed round suitably arranged pulleys.
