Abstract
613,554. Window shutters. KIEFER, H. June 14, 1946, No. 18012. [Class 20(iii)] A roller shutter 3 is guided at each side by two guide members, one sliding in the other, the upper end of one guide 4 being pivoted on a statiorary pivot 5 and the lower end of the other guide 6 being pivoted at 8 to an arm 7 the other end of which is pivoted on a stationary pivot 9, the positions of the pivots and the length of the arm being such that when the shutter descends completely its lower end is necessarily in its closed position. The Figure shows the shutter raised and the lower guide telescoped within the upper guide where it is held by its lower end engaging a spring-biassed pawl 36 on the arm 7. Descent of the shutter forces the pawl and the shutter becomes locked, by a bolt 16, cam 18, 41 and slot 40, 16, the lower guide which is thus caused to slide out of the upper guide, the arm rotating counterclockwise about the pivot 9 through a horizontal position to one in which it projects downwardly at an angle from the pivot and wherein the inner guide is engaged between a buffer 60 and a latch on the window sill. When the inner guide is wholly raised the guides are held against inward movement by a cam arrangement whilst the pawl 36 prevents outward movement.
