497,065. Flexible members adapted to form struts. CURTIS, G. L., CURTIS, E. J., and ARMSTRONG, C. A. June 9, 1937, No. 16025. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group X] A regulator for a pivoted-sliding casement window comprises a chain member C<1>, Fig. 5, which is flexible in one direction only, and is attached at one end to the sash and is projected from and retracted into a guideway 34 in the fixed frame by means of a worm 62 operated by a handle 90 on the inside of the window. A curved guideway 40 is provided in continuation of the vertical guideway 34 to deflect the chain through. an angle of 90‹ into the horizontal position. As shown in Figs. 4, 8, and 9, the chain comprises tension links 48, Fig. 9, connected by pins 52, and enclosed by inverted U -shaped members A, Fig. 8. The ends of the members A abut to prevent sagging of the chain in its extended position, and recesses 64 are provided for the reception of the pins 52. Bending of the chain during its passage through the guideway 40 is provided for by inclining those portions 66 of the ends of the members A which are below the recesses 64. The web portions 54 of the members A are formed with inclined grooves 58 which are engaged by the thread of the worm 62.
