Abstract

505,142. Hydraulic power transmitters. POPPE AKT.-GES., W., and BISCHOF, B. June 16, 1938, No. 17934. Convention date, June 16, 1937. [Class 69 (ii)] A continuously variable hydraulic gear comprises two sets of radially-arranged cylinders which are combined to form a rotor which is connected with one of the shafts between which power is to be transmitted, the other of said shafts being connected with two fixed stroke eccentrics which are disposed axially at each side of one of the cylinder sets and are drivably associated with the pistons thereof, a non-rotary eccentric device which is adjustable to different eccentric positions being associated with the pistons of the other set of cylinders and arranged, according to its position, to determine the motion of said pistons. In one form, Fig. 1, the input shaft 29 drives through gearing 30, 31 two eccentrics 9, one on each side of the cylinders 1, coupled together by a yoke 12; the valve 27 is connected to the input shaft by a claw coupling 32. The cylinders 1 are carried by a sleeve 24 also carrying the second set of cylinders la, with which is associated an eccentric adjustable by means of a hand wheel 35. The sleeve 24 is connected by gearing 36, 37 with the output shaft 38. Alternatively the shaft 38 may serve as the input shaft and 29 as the output shaft. In a modification, Fig. 4, the eccentric is adjusted by a rolling movement; the ring 8a which is engaged by the slippers 6a of the pistons 4a is mounted by roller bearings 10a in a ring 60 which rests on a plate 62, a tooth 56 on the plate engaging a recess in the ring 60 to allow rolling movement thereof effected by pistons 53. The two fixed-stroke eccentrics may be connected together by bolts so arranged so as to balance the rotary masses. Specification 481,686 is referred to.
