Abstract
505,130. Cable reels. ROAN ANTELOPE COPPER MINES, Ltd. (Thomson, J.) Jan. 24, 1938, No. 2310. [Class 99 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A winding drum is provided with cable grooves 13 which are parallel to the drum cheeks 11, 12 and extend round the greater part of the circumference. The gap between the ends of the parallel grooves is either made without grooves, e.g. by removing the groove ridges or by filling up the grooves, or is provided with inclined grooves 16 which lead the cable from one parallel groove to its neighbour. The crossover area extends across the drum in a diagonal direction to enable the cable to cross at each turn a little earlier than before. A wedge may be provided against the cheek 11 when no grooves are provided at the cross-over, in order, to steer the first turn correctly. The wedge may be of steel or of hemp rope,
