644,343. Cable drums. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 31,1948, No. 14646. [Class 99(ii)] In a dismountable drum, the barrel and lagging battens b, d are secured to wooden segments c, e attached to each of -a pair of metal end plates a held together by tiebolts f. The plates may have, welded to their opposite sides and extending radially from a boss k, ribs h, h<SP>1</SP> connected by segment-supporting ribs j, j<SP>1</SP>, alternatively, the plates may be cast.with, integral ribs. By providing alternative sets of segments c, c<SP>1</SP> or c<SP>2</SP>, and holes g, g<SP>1</SP> or g<SP>2</SP> respectively for the inner end of the cable, one pair of plates may be used for drums having barrels of different diameters and widths.
