Abstract

504,634. Window regulators; sashes balanced by springs. YOUNG, W. Nov. 2, 1937, No. 29935. [Class 20 (iii)] A window regulator for vertically sliding sashes comprises a rotary threaded shaft 8 having pinion and rack or pulley and cable engagement with the sash and a non-rotatable nut 10 adapted to be traversed to rotate the shaft by rack 11 and a hand rotated pinion 13 or like means. The nut is acted on by a spring 17 tending to balance the sash and the pitch of the screw is varied to compensate for the variable thrust of the spring. The pinions 3 or cable drums or the like may-be mounted in brackets 4 and connected to the shaft 8 by flexible members 20, Fig. 6, or by helical springs. The shaft may be grooved or given a thread by twisting a non-circular rod and the nut may have a ball 18 to engage the grooved shaft. Specification 383,357 is referred to, and Specification 504,633 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
