Abstract

408,471. Door-operating mechanism. BARDET, A., 84, Rue Oberkampf, Paris. June 19, 1933, No. 17475. Convention date, June 29, 1932. [Class 65 (i).] A pair of sliding doors, or any other movable members having opposed movements, are connected by a shaft, having two reversible threads, or groups of threads, of opposite hands engaging with members rotatable on spindles fixed to the respective doors, these members acting as nuts. As shown applied to two doors 11 supported on tracks by members 23, the shaft has a short plain central portion working in a bearing 14, and on each side of this is a portion 17 formed of a pair of metallic tapes wound helically to form a hollow double-threaded screw. Each end of the shaft is supported by a thrust-screw bearing 30, which may be replaced by a ball thrust bearing. Each member 23 has a bracket 21 embracing the shaft, and in this bracket is fixed a spindle 27 carrying two loose rollers 28 which engage between the two tapes of the threaded part 17 of the shaft ; rotation of the shaft thus causes longitudinal movement of the doors, and the angle of the thread is such that movement of either door causes rotation of the shaft and thus produces corresponding movement of the other door. Each roller 28 may be replaced by one or more ball-like members mounted on the spindle, and the rollers may be carried on single or double ball-bearings.
