Abstract
504,045. Supporting steam boilers &c. CROMPTON, C. E. Nov. 4, 1937, No. 30283. [Class 123(ii)] Vertical shell-type steam and hot water boilers &c. A containing a tube nest or like structure are mounted, so as to be turned into a horizontal position to facilitate cleaning, on trunnions C<1> in a frame comprising two standards C, and a burner D is mounted on one of them so that it can be moved clear of the space below the shell without disconnection from the fuel supply pipe. A flue pipe E is also supported by this standard and is connected to a smoke box F removably mounted on the shell. The other standard supports a control column G connected by pipes G<1>, G<2> with the steam and water spaces of the boiler and carrying fuel, feedwater supply and steam delivery controls and other instruments usually mounted on the boiler. The internal tube nest may be connected by vertical bolts to a flange ring at the upper end of the shell, at least two of the bolts being long enough to act as supports for the rest after slackening to enable the joint at the base to bo broken. Guides are then secured to the bottom plate and rollers to the upper end of the nest whereupon the shell is turned and anchored horizontally to a cross-tie C<2> connecting the standards. After removal of the nuts from the longer bolts the nest is removed on bogies.
