Abstract

503,756. Containers for shells. WARBURTON, R. E. L.,.KANE, W., and TREPUR PAPER TUBE CO., Ltd. Sept. 9, 1937, No. 24612. (Class 9 (i)] A shell container is formed from, e.g, three telescopically arranged helically wound cardboard cylinders a, d, f, secured together by glue &c. and divided at b, e to form a lid having a flange which fits into a channel in the edge of the mouth of the body. The ends are closed by metal discs g, flanges h of which are gripped by the turned-ovet rims of the ends, or which flanges are themselves turned over the ends in a double canalure joint, Strengthening plates : i and locking rings k may also be employed. The metal discs g may be domed outwardly and the shell fuze may be contained in the upper dome. The rims may be strengthened by V-shaped metal edging. The lid and body are secured together by a resilient strip l engaging a projection m and a ridge o may provide a guard. A rubber washer n urges the lid upwards and consolidates the fastening. A cardboard liner p may be inserted to surround the nose end of the shell. A strengthener r may also be provided. The cardboard may be waxed or the inner surface waxed after assembly, and the outer surface is sprayed with metal such as zinc or with non. inflammable paint.
