Abstract

503,255. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gliihlampen) Dec. 2, 1937, No. 33410. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode-glow lamp has an elongated envelope 1, electrodes 3, 4 extending side by side along most of the length of the envelope and material 8 within the envelope excited to luminescence by the discharge. In one form, the electrodes are wire helices wound on a core 2 of glass wool spaced from the U-shaped envelope (part only shown) by glass beads 7. The luminescent material 8 is on the inner wall, or on the core 2, or on both, and may be willemite, or calcium or magnesium tungstate. The filling may be neon and argon at 20 mms. pressure, or mercury with argon at 5 mms. or with a mixture of neon at 5 mms. and argon at 2 mms. Different luminescent materials may be used on the envelope and on the core ; the envelope is then frosted to mix the light. U.S.A. Specification 1,928,407 is referred to.
