Abstract

502,607. Thoracoscopes ; electric heating. WOLF GES., G. Aug. 21, 1937, No. 22945. Convention date, Sept. 3, 1936. [Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] In a thoracoscope provided with an electrically heated cauter or diathermy electrode 13, and in which a lamp 5 is resiliently attached to a holding tube 2 through which a viewing tube 20 is introduced, the cauter or electrode is fixed to a hollow catheter 6 to be introduced into tube 2, and the interior diameter of the catheter and the exterior diameter of the viewing tube 20 permit insertion of the latter into the catheter. The tube 2, which is inserted through a trocar sleeve 1, is formed with a groove in which is soldered a hollow rod 3 resiliently carrying the lamp-holder 4. The rod contains an insulated lead connected to an insulated ring 5a., lighting current being supplied to this ring and to another 5b connected to tube 2. A tube 2a serves for the aspiration of combustion gases or air from the instrument. The catheter 6 is formed of two concentric tubes 14; 19, between which are disposed two conducting strips 15 for the heating or diathermy current, the strips being embedded between two silken layers 16, 18 and spaced by insulators 17. The front ends of the strips are rolled to form tubular members 12, holding the loop 13 of platinum or platinum alloy. The members 12 and loop 13 are preferably so curved that the vertex of the latter lies on the axis of the tube 6. The strips 15 are connected at their other ends to a two-part current distributer 7 formed, with a plug sleeve 8 containing two contact rings 8a, 8b. A tongue 11 on a ring 10 on the catheter is adapted to engage a bayonet groove 24 in the head 25 of the tube 2, so that on relative rotation of the catheter 6 and tube 2, the parts are connected together, the loop 13 lying. opposite the lamp 5, and the objective 22 of the viewing tube being between the members 12 and the lamp.
