502,197. Time-alarm signals. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES), Ltd., S., and WALFORD, H. N. Oct. 23, 1937, No. 29014. [Class 118 (ii)] In an electric clock provided with alarm mechanism operated by the leakage flux from the stator of the motor, a pawl l is set by the dial n to the time at which the alarm is to sound, a freely mounted member h being rotated from the clock mechanism through a lost-motion device such as a pin and slot on wheels t, u. Upon the recess m coming opposite pawl l, the member h is displaced axially by spring c acting through bell-crank lever d bearing on a coned portion g of the member h, the stray flux of the stator of the clock mechanism contained in casing a causing plate b to vibrate to give the alarm. In order to silence the alarm, a spring-loaded pawl, actuated by a push-button (not shown) is arranged to rotate ratchet wheel j, pawl riding up the incline m, the clock mechanism being unaffected due to the lost-motion device. In order permanently to silence the alarm, a lever z may be moved over a projection 2 to maintain the vibrator b against the casing a. As an alternative form of vibrator, Fig. 4 (not shown), the plate b is flat, but of spring material, fastened to the clock casing, the spring c then being unnecessary.
