Abstract

501,727. Imidazolinium salts; foaming- agents. WALDMANN, E., and CHWALA, A. July 29, 1937, No. 3243/39. Addition to 479,491. Divided application of which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 31, 1938. Samples furnished. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] Imidazolinium salts are prepared by heating to 200-250‹ C. a mixture of a fatty acid containing at least nine carbon atoms or a salt or ester thereof, an ethylene diamine or homologue thereof in which two hydrogen atoms respectively attached to both nitrogen atoms are replaced by aliphatic or araliphatic radicles and a salt of said diamine with a strong acid. In an example, 2-heptadecyl- 1 : 3-diethylolimidazoliniumchloride is prepared from lauric acid, N : N<1>-diethylotethylenediamine and the dihydrochloride of the latter. The product forms a foam with water. Samples have been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) of products prepared from N : N<1>-diethylol, N : N<1>-dimethyl and N : N<1>-dibenzyl-ethylenediamines by condensing in the presence of the dihydrochloride of these bases with stearic acid.
