Abstract
501,556. Mechanical switches without quick action. PLESSEY CO., Ltd., and GILLARD, F. G. Nov. 1, 1937, No. 29852. [Class 38 (v)] A multi-way switch for use in radio and like apparatus, comprises a stator of insulating material through which passes an operating shaft carrying insulating rotors overlying the stator, each carrying contacts on each side which engage with two sets of contacts on the same side of the stator. The switch shaft 12 is located in a hole 11 through stator 10 by a disc 22, and carries two circular rotors 13, 14 one each side of the stator, these parts being made from sheet insulating material such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite." Resilient metal strips 16, 39 with a spoon shaped contact 18 at one end, and a connecting tag 19 at the other, are fixed by rectangular rivets 17 round the stator alternately on one side and the other. The contacts 18 engage contacts on the top or bottom rotors such as contact 24 which passing through the rotor 13 has another contact head.25 which engages a contact strip 26 held on the stator surface by tongues 28, and to which connection is made by a tag 27. To make the upper and lower rotors interchangeable two slots 43 to take the rectangular operating bar 12 are cut in them with an angular displacement equal to a multiple of the displacement between two adjacent opposite contacts 16 39. A modification is described in which the rotors and stator are of ceramic material, the former having bosses in place of the disc 22. Specification 454,735 is referred to.
