Abstract

501,823. Mechanical switches without quick action. MALLORY PATENTS HOLDING CO., Ltd. May 25, 1937, No. 14487. Void. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1936. [Class 38 (v)] A multi-way switch for use in radio apparatus comprises a series of insulating rotor discs 41-44 mounted for rotation in central circular apertures in insulating stator discs 21-24 held in spaced relation by clamping rods (not shown). Each rotor comprises a pair of discs such as 42a, 42b clamped together so that the outer flanged edges 66 just overlap the aperture in the stator disc and serve to position the rotor. Rotor contacts 72, 73 are mounted in recesses in the outer faces of the rotor discs and may be clamped by a rivet 74 which serves to connect the contacts electrically. Where it is not desired to connect the contacts they are clamped by rivets such as 78, 79 to the separate discs, the inner heads of the rivets being accommodated in recesses on the inner faces of the rotor discs. The rotor contacts engage clip shaped stator contacts which may be of the same length such as 52e. 52f or of different lengths such as 52g, 52i so that with rotor contacts of different angular and radial extents any desired switching combination may be effected. The switching positions are determined by a pair of rollers 39 carried by a spring arm 32 fixed to the operating spindle 31 and engaging a series of projections 37 on an index plate 20. The limits of rotation are set by an arm 33 engaging stops 38. The stator contacts, Fig. 10, comprise spring strips bent double to provide contact jaws 56, 57 and a soldering tag 52. The middle portion rests on the stator disc and is held by a staple 60, the arms 61, 62 of which are passed through slots 51 in the stator and engage side recesses 155 in the lower arm 56 and are then bent over the upper arm 57. A single staple 60 may serve to mount a pair of contacts on opposite sides of the stator, such as 62e, 52f in Fig. 1, in which case a sheet of insulating material 75 is interpcsed between the staple 60 and one of the contacts. Segmental apertures 50 are cut in the stator discs to reduce capacity effect for high frequency work.
