Abstract

501,368. Moulding rubber heels &c. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and PAGE, R. J. Aug. 31, 1937, No. 23785. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group VII] A rubber heel, sheet, or like member is moulded with nail receiving holes 3 and washer receiving cavities 6 of larger diameter surrounding the holes, the heel &c. is then vulcanized and washers 8 are subsequently inserted in the cavities 6. The nail holes 3 and cavities 6 are formed by a number of upstanding pegs 2 carrying flanges 5 provided in the mould 1. The flange 5 may be of circular or other shape and may be arranged a short distance from the end of the peg 2 so as to provide a recess for guiding the nail. The washers 8 are inserted in the cavities 6 by means of a punch to which they are fed automatically or hy hand and several may be inserted simultaneously. A rubber blank may be used of square or like regular shape which does not initially fit the mould cavity 1.
