Abstract

450,243. Moulding hollow rubber articles. COFFEY, J. H., Roselawn, Kenelm Road, Rhos-on-Sea. Dec. 7, 1934, No. 35148. [Class 87 (ii)] Hollow rubber articles are formed by injecting under pressure a rubber composition into the hollow space between a core and a flexible rubber mould temporarily supported by a rigid outer support. When the composition has set or hardened, the rubber mould is stripped therefrom. As applied to the moulding of rubber shoes the flexible mould or liner 3 is placed in spaced relation to a metal core or last 10 in an outer mould comprising detachable members 5 dowelled to a 'base 6. The core is provided with a tube 14 having a non-return valve through which a rubber mix is forced to fill the space between the liner 3 and the last. The mould may be heated. In some cases, the liner 3 is made of micro-porous rubber and the mould is placed in an outer box which is evacuated, liquid passing through the liner 3 and holes 16 in the mould. To facilitate the stripping of the liner from the moulded article, projections may be formed on the liner to take into recesses in the mould, so that, on opening the mould, the liner becomes detached from the article.
