973,081. Moulding hollow plastic articles. S. MEISNER. Feb. 1, 1961 [Feb. 2, 1960; Nov. 8, 1960], Nos. 3593/60 and 38268/60. Heading B5A. Hollow articles of plastic material with an interior cavity such that a rigid complementary core cannot be withdrawn are made by forming a blank between inner and outer matched dies such that the blank can be separated from them without dismantling them and subsequently bent while hot to achieve the required final shape on cooling. Helmet blank 10 is heated by coil 14 and then shaped against supports 18, 19 and abutment 25 by clamping parts 20, 21 which are pivotally mounted on base 17, operated by handles 22, 23, and held by catch 24. Base 17 is pivotally mounted on a bench so that the blank may be immersed in a tank of cold water for cooling.
