Abstract

500,758. Fountain pens. READ, W. Dec. 22, 1937, No. 35477. [Class 146 (iii)] A self-filling- fountain pen is provided with a guard which is normally positioned in the barrel and can be projected so as to extend into alignment with or beyond the end of the nib so as to prevent damage to the nib during filling. The guard is preferably in the form of a rod 1 slidable in an aperture in the nib-section 4 and having a lug 6 guided in a slot in the barrel; alternatively, the rod may be connected to a ring slidable on the barrel. The rod may carry a shield adapted to close the slot when the rod is withdrawn, and a lock to retain the rod projected may be provided. According to the Provisional Specification, a lever may be pivoted to the rod and be used for projecting it.
