Abstract
499,096. Cigarette-making machines. MULLER, J. C. May 2, 1938, No. 13028. Convention date, June 12, 1937. [Class 130] To form a tobacco rod a band 4, on to which tobacco is fed by a belt 1 from a hopper, runs through a guide 28 of gradually decreasing depth and delivers into a channel 20 of gradually decreasing depth in the periphery of a rotating disc. Adjacent the disc the bottom of the guide 28 rises to deliver the tobacco tangentially into the channel 20 and the top of the guide 28 is covered by a member 31, Fig. 8, merging into a finger 30 which enters the channel. The band is U-shaped where it receives the tobacco, and flattens gradually as it bears against a V-shaped edge of the disc to force the tobacco into the channel. The disc is formed by a ring 10, Figs. 1 and 6, held between a disc 6 mounted on a shaft 8 and a ring 9 which is secured to the disc 6 by bolts 11 passing through openings 12 in the ring 10. The latter ring runs on rollers 13 mounted on the arms 14 of a fixed support 15 which can be adjusted vertically. The tobacco is removed from the channel by a flexible finger 34, Fig. 2, and passes between the band 4 and a bridge piece 32 on to a rod-forming belt 33. Any particles of tobacco adhering to the band 4 are removed by a scraper 35 and directed by a plate 36 on to the tobacco on the belt 33.
