Abstract
498,562. Actuation of switches. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 8, 1938, No. 3928. Convention date, Feb. 8, 1937. [Class 38 (v)] The variation in the length of a hygrometric material 4 due to changes in humidity, operates a switch with a snap-action. Levers 1 and 7 are mounted on pivot 2 and urged together by spring-pressed levers 9 and 10, and pivoted at 6 to a short arm of lever 1 is a member 5 to which is connected a tress of hair 4 which is anchored at the other end to an adjustable support with provision for setting. Contraction of the hair 4 with decrease in humidity rotates lever 1 against springs 13 and 11, lever 7 being held by a projection on crank 15 engaging a finger 23 thereon until arm 26 on lever 1 engages and the lever 15 to free lever 7 which is moved by spring 11 to carry boss 8 from its engagement with spring contacts 27 which then open with a snap-action. Increase in humidity lengthens the hair 4 and allows spring 13 to contract and close the contacts 27 with a similar snap-action.
