Abstract

498,314. Screw fans. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN, and ENGDAHL, S. M. F. July 5, 1937, No. 18698. [Class 110 (i)] A fan bearing b, located in a passage for gas conveyed by the fan 2, is surrounded by a cap 6 forming a duct for cooling air passing through one or more tubular arms 7 supporting the cap 6. The cap is separated into two chambers 8, 9 by a wall 10 which supports the bearing b. The cooling air is assisted by an auxiliary fan 16 mounted on the fan shaft 2, and in some cases by arranging the cap 6 to extend over the fan hub 18 to face the fan 2, the suction from fan 2 increasing or replacing the action of fan 16. The lubricant pipe 17 may be located in the path of the cooling air. The shaft 3 may be driven by belt or chain gearing passing through one of the tubular arms 7.
