497,897. Navigational plotting-instruments. FREYNE, H. Feb. 21, 1938, No. 5352. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1937. [Class 97 (iii)] For determining the centre of a circle at the circumference of which a given chord subtends a given angle, the triangular upper portion of the instrument shown is provided with a series of equally spaced lines parallel to the base MN. The lines are in groups marked A, B, &c. and each group contains a set of differently coloured lines a, b, &c. In use, the instrument is moved until one of the lines, identifiable by its group marking and colour coincides with the chord on a chart between two observed objects. A tabular scale is provided from which may be read off for each line and for any given angle, e.g. the angle between the objects as observed by a sextant, the distance of the centre of the desired circle along the right bisector 1, 2 of the chord. A set of scales in book form is described.
