481,881. Calculating-apparatus. RICHARDS, E. W. W. Sept. 16, 1936, No. 25214. [Class 106 (i)] [Also in Group XX] An appliance for use on plans for determining lemniscate or other transition curves suitable for use in laying out roads &c., comprises a rule having marked thereon a set of deflection rays a and a series of related transition curves g, the rays and curves having a a common point of origin. The rule which is preferably transparent may have a protractor scale b for measuring the deviation angle between the two tangents to be joined by a transition curve. Each ray of the protractor b is numbered and the deflection ray defining transition curve segments at the ends of which tangents make with each other half the' angle of the ray of the protractor b is correspondingly numbered. Further related data may be tabulated in the columns e, f. An interpolation diagram k is provided to facilitate the determination of curves between the marked curves. The rays a are selected so that they mark off equal chords on the curves thus providing data from which the curves may be readily layed out on the ground.
