Abstract
497,662. Surgical -bedsteads. WHITFIELDS BEDSTEADS, Ltd., and ADAMS, E. June 22, 1937, No. 17370. [Class 52 (ii)] In an obstetric bedstead of the kind comprising independent and separable head part and foot part frames A, B, Fig. 1, the surface of the foot part is displaceable vertically by, for example, a screw - actuated mechanism, into or out of alignment with the surface of the head part so that in the out of alignment position the foot part of the bedstead is capable of being moved manually to a position below the head part of the bed, and means are provided whereby the two parts of the bed may be operatively engaged. The legs 6 of the foot part Bare telescopic, the surface 2 being carried on sliding pillars 9 and supported from frame members 8 by means of toggle links 10, the central pivots of which are connected in pairs to transverse yokes 11. The two yokes 11 are drawn together or separated by a screwed rod 13 to raise or lower the surface 2. The two centre legs of the foot part are preferably cranked to engage over a transverse rail 15 of the head part to secure the two parts together. The head part may be provided with castor mechanism as described in Specification 258,003, [Class 52 (i)]. In a modified form, the means for adjusting the surface 2, Fig. 6, comprises four links 17 pivoted to the surface 2 and having at their lower ends rollers 18 running on rails 19 mounted transversely of the underframe. The two rollers on each side are mounted on a common shaft, each shaft carries a yoke 21, and the two yokes are drawn together or separated by means of a screwed rod 23.
