497,493. Loose - ball check valves. HOLMES & CO., Ltd., W. C., BENTLEY, H., and HENSHAW, D. M. June 25, 1937, No. 17777. [Class 135] A check valve for a sewage disposal plant &c. comprises a body portion 1, having inlet and outlet ports 2, 3 respectively, and provided with a seating 8 for a ball 9 of, for example hard rubber with a metal core, the ball being adapted to be displaced from its seating to a position substantially or mainly out of the flow through the valve, and to be guided during this movement by inclined recesses 12 formed in the sides of said body portion. As shown, one side of the body is provided with a hand hole 6 having a cover 5 in which the recess 12 on this side is partly formed. When the valve is to act as a delivery valve, the functions of the ports 2, 3 are reversed and a hard rubber ball with a wooden core is used.
