Abstract

497,008. Springs; motor-cycle spring forks. TURNER, E. June 5, 1937, No. 15618. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A motor-cycle wheel suspension includes a resilient device consisting of a helical spring having adjacent surfaces of some or all the coils connected together through rubber or the like, one end of the device being attached to a fork movable with the wheel and the other to the frame. The device may also consist of a helical spring formed of wire of substantially rectangular X-section embedded in a rubber sleeve having a bore diameter approximately one-third its overall diameter. The spring may be stressed in compression or tension while the rubber is applied to it. As shown, the device consists of a spring 11 embedded in a rubber sleeve 12 and connects the front fork 13 with the frame 14, the connection with the frame being effected by a flanged plug 15, 16. In a modification, the rubber is shaped so that it is waisted between adjacent coils when the spring is unstressed. Specification 497,051 is referred to.
