Abstract

A refractory concrete comprises aluminous cement and an aggregate consisting of china clay which has been rendered porous by mixing with granular combustible material such as sawdust, and burning. The aggregate may be made by mixing 40 parts by volume of china clay with 60 parts of sawdust and moulding into bricks, which are burnt, and crushed to suitable size. The concrete will withstand temperatures up to Seger cone 26.
