Abstract

Silica-base refractories are bonded by means of calcium aluminate, which may be formed in situ during baking. A concrete, which sets in water and is unaffected by sudden temperature changes, is made by a mixture containing 2/3 -\ba3/4 of crushed silica glass and 1/3 -\ba1/4 of calcium aluminate. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the calcium aluminate can be replaced by an aluminous cement. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
