Abstract

In electric discharge devices in which the leads pass through a plate of ceramic material which is sealed to quartz or to a glass which has about the same coefficient of expansion as quartz, the ceramic material is composed of pure silica, alumina and magnesia, mixed and fired to give a homogeneous mass. The material may consist of 55 per cent silica, 35 per cent alumina and 10 per cent magnesia. During the sealing the plate may be supported in a refractory mould of alumina.
