Abstract

496,361. Machinery guards. LOVELL MANUFACTURING CO. March 16, 1938, No. 8116. Convention date, March 17, 1937. [Class 80 (iv)] A safety device for wringers comprises handoperated means which, at a touch, release the pressure and stop the drive. Hinged flaps 28 on the waterboards 31 when pressed act on arms 27, Fig. 2, on longitudinal shafts which are thereby rotated to cause arms 24 to press on pivoted latches 20, 52. The former then frees a lever 14 pivoted to the top bar 10. Owing to the unstable position of a toggle lever 16 the spring 9 then causes the top 10 to rise and release the pressure. The latch 52 raises an extension 51, Fig. 10, on a pivoted catch 49 and causes a trip 48 to move away from a clutch lever 45 and allow it, under the force of springs 47, to assume a neutral position in which a dog 40 is out of engagement with either of its associated gears. The drive from the shaft 35 then ceases.
