Abstract
494.339. Bright - annealing furnaces. BIRMINGHAM ELECTRIC FURNACES, Ltd., LOBLEY, A. G., and ROBIETTE, A. G. E. March 22, 1937, No. 8440. [Class 51 (ii)] Oxidizing impurities are purged from the porous refractory lining a<1> of the heat-treatment chamber a of a bright annealing furnace by passing non-oxidizing gas under pressure through a pipe f into the chamber a, the gas, if doors b<1>, c<1> are closed, percolating through the lining a<1> and escaping through vents d<1> in an outer spaced metal casing d closable by cover plates d<2> ; or, Fig. 4, gas is supplied under pressure through pipes f<1> in the casing d into the space e, passes through the lining and escapes through tunnels band c. During annealing this may be continued or protective gas may be supplied direct to the chamber a and forced under pressure to percolate outwards through the lining. The lining a<1> may also be enclosed in a perforated shell a2.
