Abstract

494,094. Locking-rings. MACLAREN, A. S. April 16, 1937, No. 10924. [Class 89 (i)] A deformable ring 16 of malleable material arranged as shown between a nut 13 having a cylindrical recess 14 with its edge rounded and two plates 10, 11, to be bolted together is contractedly wedged between, and locks together the nut and bolt when the nut is screwed down. The ring may be gapped to vary its circumference before use, the gap being wedge-shaped to bring the lips parallel after flattening, or it may have bridged gaps. Studs may similarly be locked to a workpiece. Fig. 15 shows a stud-box 41 used with a stud 39 to screw it into a structure 40 and force the ring 16 into place at the same time.
