Abstract
493,831. Supply systems for discharge lamps. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. June 1, 1938, No. 16414. Convention date, June 4, 1937. Addition to 477,747. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] In a device according to the parent Specification comprising a high pressure metal vapour discharge tube 1 connected in series with a filament and a resistance 18 having a high negative temperature coefficient, a further resistance is connected in shunt with the resistance 18 and is so dimensioned that it emits light before the resistance 18 has been heated up. The shunting resistance may be combined with the filament in a single tungsten filament 11 part of which is shunted across the resistance 18, which consists of a rod of a sintered mixture containing ceramic material such as aluminium silicate and silicon. Suitable values of circuit constants in a particular case are given in the Specification. The discharge tube 1 and the resistances 11, 18 are enclosed in an outer envelope 7 containing argon and nitrogen.
