493,358. Electric signalling systems ; ratchet gearing. BLECHSCHMIDT, H., and MEINNICH, R. April 5, 1937, No. 9569. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 7, 1937.] [Class 40 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a step by step receiver, a friction block operatively connected to the armature of the driving magnet engages a pulley to rotate it, upon the magnet being energized, the pulley carrying a toothed wheel with which a spring loaded pawl co-operates, to prevent reverse movement. The friction block 13, pivoted at 12 to an arm 9 suspended by a spring 10 from an arm 11, is caused to rotate a pulley 3 clockwise when the magnet 44 is energized by an impulse and attracts the armature 5, the amount of movement being regulated by the point 25 at which the connecting link 7 is pivoted to the armature 5. The pawl 13 is returned by a spring 33 and is held against an abutment 14 while the upward movement ot the arm 9 is restricted by the check cord 15. The axle 1 is held in position by a spring- urged roller 16 engaging a ratchet wheel 2. Similar arrangements are provided to rotate the pulley counterclockwise. In a modification, Fig. 2, the shaft 1a is adapted to be stopped upon a projection 38 engaging an arm 29, the circuit to the driving magnet 44<1> being interrupted at contacts 32. When switch 51 is closed the magnet 31 is energized so that upon the projection 38 striking the arm 29 the extension pivots and allows the shaft 1a to rotate without breaking the circuit of the driving magnet.
