493,169. Fluid - actuated valves. FORGES ET ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE JEUMONT. Oct. 13, 1937, No. 27842. Convention date, Oct. 30, 1936. [Class 135] A valve device actuated by conduit pressure under the control of an electromagnetically actuated auxiliary valve 8 has a trunk piston 4 adapted to house a loading spring 13 and faced at the end to engage a valve seat. The end face of the piston is constantly subject to inlet pressure which leaks through a restricted passage in the piston to the control chamber. When the auxiliary valve is closed the pressures on the two sides of the piston equalize and the spring holds the valve closed. Opening the auxiliary valve relieves the pressure in the control chamber allowing the pressure on the inlet side to move the valve to the open position. In a modification the actuating piston is coupled by a link with a butterfly or rotatable plug valve and the leak is provided by a capillary tube extending into the conduit. A series of valves 8 mav be arranged along the cylinder, each controlled by an electromagnetically actuated needle valve whereby a variable opening of the valve may be obtained.
