Abstract

492,508. Cartons &c. for fragile articles. ASTLEY, A. Feb. 25, 1938, No. 6050. [Class 18] A fragile article 12 is held in a crate, box, or carton by two resilient suspension systems 10 which embrace the article and of which one, at least, is anchored to a liner or frame member removable from the box &c. The liner and its suspension system can be collapsed substantially flat. A suspension system comprises a collar 9 of webbing and an endless elastic band, or separate lengths of elastic, or helical springs, threaded through the collar. As shown, the two systems are anchored to separate liners 7 in a collapsable carton 4, and the liners and carton may collapse as a whole. The end closure flaps of the carton or separate stiffening caps keep the carton expanded.
