Abstract
492,426. Vehicle wheels. JULIEN, M. F. A. Oct. 13, 1937, No. 27894. Convention date, Oct. 20, 1936. [Class 144 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] In an elastic railway-vehicle wheel, having resilient means 5, such as rubber, arranged between a web 8 on its rim 1 (or hub) and flanges 2, 3 on its hub 2 (or rim), the rubber is adhesively connected to plates 6, 7 and is provided with clearance holes for the passage of bolts 4, 9 which rigidly connect respectively the outer plates 6 to the hub-flanges 2, 3 and the inner plates 7 to the rim-web 8. The bolts 4 carry distance-sleeves 14 to limit the initial compression, if any, of the rubber 5, as the axially-guided flange 3 is drawn towards the hub - flange 2. The distance - sleeves 14 adhesively carry rubber sleeves 14<1> which yieldingly limit relative circumferential movement between the hub and rim as the rubber 5 yields in shear. Relative radial movement, also with the rubber 5 in shear, is yieldingly limited by a rubber sleeve 13 adhering to a central ring 12. Relative axial movement between rim and hub places one half of the rubber 5 in compression, and the other in tension. Specification 493,119, [Group XXXII], is referred to.
