Abstract

492,149. Discharge apparatus. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. March 23, 1938, No. 8936. Convention date, March 31, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] In gas- or vapour-filled discharge devices having carbon electrodes and metallic screens and like elements in the neighbourhood of these electrodes and insulated therefrom, these screens are made of a metal or alloy which in operation is covered with a protective layer of oxide, preventing any of the constituent metals from forming volatile compounds with carbon monoxide which might form a conductive coating on the insulator. Suitable materials are aluminium and chromite. The Figure shows a carbon anode 8 carried by an insulator 9 in a metal sleeve 11. A control grid 12 is supported in the sleeve by clips 19, 20 embracing insulating tubes 17, 18, surrounding rods 15, 16 supported in tubular casings 13, 14 attached to the sleeve 11.
