Abstract
1,031,312. Thermionic valves. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. May 8, 1964 [June 20, 1963], No. 19340/64. Heading H1D. In a high voltage rectifier tube comprising an elongated envelope of insulating material containing a cathode 9 a tubular anode 7, and a shield 11 spaced from the anode, an annular area of the inner surface of the envelope extending between the anode and shield is coated with a metal film 13 which constitutes a radiation barrier. As shown, the shield 11 is supported by a mica spacer 23 and conductive leads 27. During manufacture a layer of the material of film 13, e.g. copper or silver, is electro-deposited on shield 11, and after assembly of the tube components within the envelope, and during the final steps of heating and evacuating the envelope and activating the cathode, the shield 11 is heated by induction to effect vapour-deposition of the metal film 13. The film may have a thickness in the range 0À5 x 10<SP>-6</SP> to 4À0 x 10<SP>-6</SP> inches, and extends from a line 35 adjacent the anode to a line 37 spaced from seals 29.
